Neither Paul nor I had ever been surfing so we decided to take a lesson together where the waves were small and the water warm rather than back home where the waves are nice but the water is cold. Yes, Hawaii is known for it's surfing; that's on the other side of the islands. Paul liked this picture because it looks like he knows what he's doing and like I'm about to fall off. I assure you the opposite is far closer to the truth.
